World-Class
Saltwater Sport Fishing
Situated
on the British Columbia west coast, on Dundas Island, near
Prince Rupert, Haa Nee Naa Fishing Lodge is on of BC's premier
salmon fishing lodges. Located between
two of North America's most productive salmon rivers, the
Skeena and the Nass, Dundas Island sits directly on the
migratory path of millions of Pacific salmon. Haa Nee Naa
Lodge guests get the first crack at these fish as they make
their way to local rivers and down the BC coast to their
place of birth and spawning grounds.
We specialize in saltwater sport fishing
for ocean bright salmon and a wide array of bottom
fish. Most of the guests at our resort prefer salmon fishing with
a chance of catching a trophy size Spring ( Chinook \ Tyee
) in the 30 pound and over class. Large Northern Coho invade
the waters later in the season and provide exciting action
on light gear and fly rods for these bright bullets averaging
8 - 14 pounds. Halibut are abundant in the calm protected
waters. "Chicken" halibut in the 15 - 25 pound
class make up the bulk of the catch but each year large
"barn doors" get weighed in at the resort. Other
species of bottom fish that can be targeted are lingcod,
red snapper, and a variety of other rockfish that cumulate
on the reefs that surround the island.
Haa Nee Naa Lodge guests are provided
with all the first class tackle and equipment needed to
tangle with that trophy BC salmon or halibut.
The resort's fleet of fishing tenders
consists of safe, stable, 16 and 17 foot welded aluminum
boats. All boats have been custom built in Prince Rupert,
British Columbia, with local waters, and fishing in mind.
They are powered by quiet, reliable 40 or 50 h.p. Honda
four stroke outboard motors, which push the skiffs at a
top speed of 27 m.p.h. The motors are equipped with trouble-free,
automatic trolling plates that slow the boats down for the
best troll, perfect for motor mooching plug-cut herring.
All
vessels and safety equipment are Canadian Coast Guard approved.
They contain Lowrance depth sounder/fish finders, VHF radios,
automatic bilge pumps, flares, paddles, life vests, compasses,
area charts, first aid kits, cushioned "Fish On"
swivel seats, rod holders, large mouth landing nets, fish
bonkers, bait coolers, lunch and beverage coolers, clean
fish rags and fully stocked tackle boxes.
Built-in
features include; cutting boards, drink holders, and fish
boxes with external drains. Boats are cleaned, refueled
and restocked every time you come to the dock, and your
catch is expertly cleaned and processed for your departure.
Haa Haa Nee Naa Lodge offers four fully loaded guide boats;
two 21-foot Campion walk-arounds and two 19-foot Campion
center consoles for your comfort.
Guests at Haa Nee Naa Lodge use
only top quality rods, reels and tackle. Provided for you
are long, limber 10.5 foot mooching rods with precision
machined aluminum Trophy "Tyee" single action
reels. The reels are loaded with 20 lb. test Berkley Big
Game line. Fishing is done primarily by motor mooching (slow
trolling) cut-plug herring in slow back eddies along kelp
beds and rock walls at depths of 10-35 pulls (20-70 feet).
This method is extremely effective for the aggressive Chinook
and Coho salmon which are abundant in the area. Also available
are level wind reels for those not comfortable with the
Canadian style single action reels and a few select fly
fishing outfits.
Bottom fishing enthusiasts can
target the vast array of bottom dwellers with the Lodge's
Stout 6 foot halibut rods, and Penn level wind reels
loaded with 50 pound no stretch Tuff Line. Gaffs and halibut
harpoons are supplied for the anglers on their treks to
the abundant reefs and shoals in the area.
